CRIPtic returns – bigger and better than before!

In 2019, I was privileged to be able to curate and perform in a d/Deaf and disabled artists’ showcase at the Barbican Centre, which I titled CRIPtic. Generously funded by the Barbican and Arts Council England, the night was a huge success, and I was invited back for CRIPtic 2021.

This year, we’re taking CRIPtic a step further. Rather than commissioning artists to perform in the showcase, we will be commissioning four emerging d/Deaf or disabled artists or d/Deaf or disabled-led small groups (up to 4 people in a group, but smaller groups are more likely to be commissioned due to funding limitations), who will be offered paid monthly mentoring, monthly development workshops, and a workshopping session to take your idea from pitch to a 15 minute performance at the Barbican Centre in the autumn.

I’m so excited to be offering this in such a difficult climate – and especially that it focuses on d/Deaf and disabled creatives, who may have lost access to opportunities above and beyond other artists. I have benefited enormously from the mentoring and support I’ve received, and I’m thrilled to be able to pay that forward.
